But what if the person being interviewed just asked,” What is the #1 thing you want the person you hire to do in this job?”
This is a good way for the people being interviewed to get the employers to tell them exactly what they want in a new employee. The employer will give the jobseeker the perfect opportunity to say,” I can do that.” And then the interviewee can go on to give details about how the skills and experience he has will help him get the job done.
For example:
The hiring manager might say, “We want the person we hire to be able to manage a team of 12 people, and provide regular reports to management.”
The jobseeker could then say,” I can do that. In my last job I was responsible for a sales department that consisted of 15 people in a middle management position that required biweekly updates to management.”
Or the business owner might say,” We need a person who is prepared to work on a casual on call basis at several different outlets.”
The jobseeker could then say,” I can do that. I operate a home based business which means I have a very flexible schedule. I am easy to contact at the last minute and I am very adaptable, which I have proven in past positions where I worked on an on call basis.”
This sounds like a good suggestion.
What employer doesn’t want to hire the person who says, “I can do that”?
